What is CUDA?
CUDA is NVIDIA's parallel computing platform: a programming model, compiler, drivers and libraries (cuBLAS, cuDNN, NCCL) that let software run on NVIDIA GPUs.
Why it matters when renting a GPU
PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX and most inference servers ship CUDA builds first. Renting an NVIDIA GPU usually means existing code runs as is.
Match the CUDA version of your container image to the driver on the rented machine; a mismatch is a common cause of failed launches.
Worked example
Of the 99 GPU and accelerator models described on EverXCloud, 96 are NVIDIA GPUs that run CUDA.
Frequently asked questions
- Can CUDA code run on AMD GPUs?
- Not directly. AMD's ROCm provides HIP, a CUDA-like interface, and tools to port CUDA code, but it is a separate software stack.
