What is MIG (Multi-Instance GPU)?
MIG (Multi-Instance GPU) is an NVIDIA feature of the A100, H100 and newer data center GPUs that partitions one physical GPU into up to seven isolated instances, each with its own memory and compute.
Why it matters when renting a GPU
A small model or a development notebook rarely needs a full 80 GB GPU. A MIG slice gives guaranteed isolation at a fraction of the resources.
Check whether an offer is a full GPU or a MIG instance before comparing prices.
Worked example
A 3B model in FP16 needs about 3 × 2 = 6 GB of weights, under a tenth of the 80 GB of an A100, so a small MIG instance can serve it instead of the whole GPU.
Frequently asked questions
