What is Egress?
Egress is data leaving a provider's network, for example when you download checkpoints or results from a rented GPU server. Some clouds bill it separately.
Why it matters when renting a GPU
Large checkpoints take time to move, and the instance keeps billing while you transfer.
Read the network and transfer conditions of each offer; do not assume they are the same across providers.
Worked example
Downloading a 140 GB FP16 checkpoint over a 1 Gb/s link (1 ÷ 8 = 0.125 GB/s) takes about 19 minutes at line rate (140 ÷ 0.125 ÷ 60).
