What is a spot GPU instance? Spot vs spot market

On clouds, a spot instance is spare capacity that can be interrupted. On EverXCloud, the spot exchange is a live market for GPU hours.

What is Spot instance?

On public clouds, a spot instance is spare capacity sold at a discount that the provider can reclaim with short notice. On EverXCloud, the spot exchange is a live market where GPU hours trade at the current best offer or at your bid.

Why it matters when renting a GPU

Interruptible capacity suits checkpointed training and batch jobs, not interactive services. Always checkpoint regularly on interruptible machines.

On an exchange, the price moves with supply and demand; a limit bid lets you wait for your price instead of paying the current offer.

Worked example

If a job checkpoints every 30 minutes and runs 6 hours, an interruption costs at most 30 minutes of recomputation, about 8.3% of the run (0.5 ÷ 6).
